Location Information

How to Get Here

Charleston is a beautiful and historic city, and it is sometimes referred to as the Holy City due to the number of churches that call it home.

There is one major airport that serves Charleston, Charleston International Airport.  Guests can also fly in to Myrtle Beach and drive down but it is a 2 hour drive down a beautiful (yet boring) highway. Charleston does have a bustling commercial port, so it’s entirely possible to come via cruise ship, but the plane ticket is going to be much cheaper.

If you are flying into Charleston’s airport there are rental car agencies located at the airport as well as taxi and shuttle services.

Where to Stay

There are a variety of area hotels that serve the downtown and West Ashley area of Charleston and we’ve included the locations of a few of these. Such as the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Boulevard, the Courtyard Charleston Waterfront on Lockwood Boulevard, the Holiday Inn Express on Spring St, the Holiday Inn Riverview on Savannah Highway, the Spring Hill Suites on Ripley Point Drive and LaQuinta Inn & Suites on Ashley Point Drive. Of these hotels we have blocked rooms and special rates at the Charleston Marriott and the Courtyard Charleston Waterfront.

Fun Things to Do

Charleston is a beautiful and historic city, and it is sometimes referred to as the Holy City due to the number of churches that call it home, especially in downtown Charleston. There are also several museums in the area, most notably the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime museum which features the USS Yorktown a decommissioned aircraft carrier. Charleston also plays home to the HL Hunley, a civil war era submarine, which given that Charleston is home to Fort Sumter is only fitting. There are also tours to Fort Sumter. Charleston also has a local aquarium, which currently has a Madagascar exhibit.

For the less historically inclined, Charleston has beautiful shopping districts ranging from the traditional tourist fare to the more unique, as well as your regular shopping experience.  One such area is the Market Street Shops, a large somewhat covered permanent market, the open air areas can change on a daily basis but this area was recently redone to include a more permanent area for certain shops. And this is a great area to get interesting keepsakes to remind you of your stay in Charleston.

These are but a few of the fun things to do in Charleston and the links listed below both direct to these and give other options for fun things to do in the area.
